Transforming The Joker

A client came to us recently requesting us to transform a Joker statue from Kotobukiya into a more traditional/retro style Joker. The client asked for just the suit, shirt and tie to be painted. The suit was to be purple, the shirt orange and the tie lime green. The Pictures below show the original statue before work began.

The first task was to tape over the parts that weren't to be changed to avoid getting unwanted paint onto them as the statue was going to be airbrushed to give a better effect and to save some time!

The first part to be painted was the suit as it was the largest area. I sprayed a base colour of Xereus purple from Citadel all over the model. I then sprayed a highlight of Genestealer purple from Citadel, and then added a drop of white into the airbrush to give a final highlight.

I then taped around the shirt ready to spray it with a base colour of Jokaero Orange from Citadel. I highlighted the shirt with Trollslayer Orange from Citadel. I also used the same colours to painstakingly paint the edges of the lapel. The tie was given a base colour of Warboss green from Citadel, highlighting with Moot green from the same brand.

The photos below show the finished commission once the masking tape had been removed after a coat of varnish to protect the paint.
